Jemiscoe Chambers-Black
Agent, Andrea Brown Literary Agency
Jemiscoe, or Jem as she likes to be called, cannot say that reading and writing came naturally. Rather, these interests were inspired by pizza. At seven, her school offered free Pizza Hut and Shakey’s Pizza coupons as a reward for reading books, and Jem was sold. Eventually, the books held more interest than the pizza ever did. From reading, writing soon followed.
Jem was born in Washington, D.C., then lived in Los Angeles for two decades, but now lives in Austin with her husband and three kids. She spent more than a decade as an Assistant Director for film and television. In this line of work, she met a diverse group of people from all over the world, which offered inspiration for research and character.
CURRENT NEWS & MORE
I AM OPEN! But what am I really, really, REALLY looking for at the moment?
Hmmm, I'd really like to find something scary, thriller-ish, maybe some type of ancestral anger. I'm always looking for some witchy, whether it's cozy or dark. And I am always, ALWAYS looking for the LOVE stories!!!
I'm also really interested in artists. And they don't have to have a focus on picture books. I'd love to work with cover artists, too.
I'm also open to author-illustrator graphic novelists. I am especially interested in YA and adult stories in this format.
But that, of course, isn't all I'm looking for. For a more up-to-date wishlist and information on alllllll the things I'm hoping to find, please go to my agency's website here.

So my colleague, Jennifer Laughran, invited me on her podcast, Literaticast. Jenn has the most soothing voice, don't you agree? Anyhoo, check out our chat!
